Throughout the Renaissance, artists primarily learned their craft by apprenticeship in an established master artist’s studio. Apprentices earned their keep by stretching canvas and grinding pigments. In return, they learned from the studio master, and went on to become accomplished artists themselves.
Atelier South is creating an art movement in Atlanta. Director and Principal Instructor George Anthony Morton is developing a cadre of serious, committed students interested in advancing their craft on a more consistent, rigorous basis. The reason is twofold: Atelier South will need competent faculty to help teach and mentor in a growing curriculum, and it will also require a workshop of dedicated trained artists to assist in completing large scale commissions. Due to the demand for expertise attained at this level, this program of intensive training will be available by invitation only to the serious and elect few.
