We believe in perfecting our craft. It is through the pursuit of excellence that an artist becomes equipped with the technical tools to express the animating spirit of his work. From time to time, we will be hosting world renown artists to share their gifts, their talent and their expertise with our students.
Join us for Atelier South's inaugural workshop by Living Master Dan Thompson. Widely considered to be the penultimate "artist's artist", Dan will give an overview of the mechanics of portraiture. By showing how best to capture the underlying structure of the subject with an awareness of anatomical geometry and perspective, a greater likeness and gesture can be achieved. This program begins with a demo from 5:00 pm on Wednesday, April 15 followed by a 1 day intensive workshop on Saturday.
In 2006 Dan Thompson co-founded the Grand Central Academy of Art in New York. In 2008, he co-founded the Janus Collaborative School of Art in New York. Dan Thompson has also instructed privately at Studio 126 in New York and is on the faculty of the New York Academy of Art, The Art Students League of New York, and Studio Incamminati, in Philadelphia, PA.
